Located in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica, along the country's 'Gold Coast' there are many ways to get to Nosara depending on your preference.
International flights into the country will either be through Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport in Liberia (LIR), a 2.5 hour drive from Nosara or Juan SantamarÃa International Airport in San Jose (SJO), a 4.5 hour drive from Nosara.
While Liberia is closer, sometimes its best to check both airports for direct flight availability and to compare prices.
Ground Transportation
There are many local options like Terratour that offer transportation in their air-conditioned vans from either international airport to Nosara. You can also rent a car and drive, however please note that some parts of the trip involve unpaved roads that are often full of potholes. If you do choose to drive we recommend taking it slowly and ensuring you are taking the route through Nicoya to avoid river crossings, especially in the months between May and December.
Domestic Flights
The fastest and most scenic way to get to Nosara is to fly. Our local airport, Nosara Airport (NOB) is a less than 10 minute drive from the property. Check in time for domestic flights is 1 hour before the departure time.
Airlines with regular service to Nosara are Sansa Airlines and Green Airways.
You can also charter your own flight through Carmon Air or a helicopter through Volar.
Note that all domestic flights are run with smaller planes that have baggage restrictions, so be sure to check the details if you are traveling with a lot of luggage / oversized luggage like surfboards.
We recommend having your own mode of transportation once you're in Nosara to fully enjoy all the area has to offer. For holiday periods be sure to book early as inventory is often limited.
Car rentals
For those that want a car, there are three internationally known car rental services here in Nosara, National, Alamo and Enterprise where you can rent sedans and SUVs. The location code is NOB, which stands for Nosara Airport but the actual pick up and drop off location is in Playa Guiones, a less than 5 minute drive from the property.
Quad / ATV / Golf Cart Rentals
If you prefer a more open air approach to getting around town you might enjoy renting a quads, side-by-side or golf cart. There are many companies who offer a variety of options including Limo Dan's, iQuad, Monkey Quads and Pipin's Rentals.
eBikes
Prefer to bike? eBikes have become very popular in Nosara and are a great option for daily or longer term rentals. Our neighbor Cali Bike is a minute walk from the property and a great choice.
TukTuks
Want a break from driving? Our local taxis's, referred to as tuk tuks are a great way to get around. But they are tiny! So best for 2 - 3 passengers max. It's a good idea to ask for the price up front so there aren’t any surprises. Many will give you a good price for a round trip journey if you ask.
Life in paradise is not without its occasional disruptions. Nosara, because of its remote location in the jungle, can experience daily power outages (often quick) and water shut offs during dry season due to shortages. To help combat this, Haven has a large water tank which provides a reserve to the house during these times. Regardless, we encourage all of our guests to conserve water during dry periods (December - April), but also year round. Irrigation for the property's lush garden is supplied through a grey water treatment system in an additional effort to conserve. The house also has 2 internet services (Starlink and a local fiber service) with an automatic switch and battery back up that allows for continued service during short power outages, perfect for those who need to stay connected during their stay. Petty theft can also happen here, but can easily be avoided by locking doors, closing gates and setting alarms when leaving the property. The villa also has 3 large safes (large enough to fit laptops), perimeter and entry way cameras and is monitored by a roaming private security guard from 5pm - 5am.
